My daughter was coloring on our kitchen floor and I've always told her "Color inside the lines so it looks pretty!". So when she accidentally colored outside the line she was so upset-balled it up and threw the picture. It's crazy how much it's been pounded into our heads that a picture isn't "perfect" or "pretty" if you color OUTSIDE the lines. In the photography industry it's the same way...if you step outside the lines of composition, perfect white balance and what it "should" be then your pictures aren't good. That's not true. Everyone is an artist in their own way...if we all colored inside the lines how mundane that would be! So I encourage you to color outside the lines, make your own creative portraits and shoot the pictures YOU want. You'll also find the kind of clients you'd like to photograph!
