Rocking your Engagement Shoot | Virginia Wedding Photographer | Sarah Houston Photography

Engagement shoots are super fun and I truly enjoy that time to connect with my couples. It also gives me the chance to show them how I "work"...so when the wedding day comes-they are pro's at going into natural romantic poses! I had written a post on how to prepare for your engagement shoot here. I wanted to just go over a few more things that might be helpful :)

My couples opt for two outfits, one classic/dressy and one more relaxed...but when I say relaxed it's more-dress casual. I don't really suggest jeans and flip-flops for the casual attire as it doesn't translate well in the portraits. Khaki's and sperry's are a great staple for the guy and dressy sandals and a cute sundress are options for the girl.

I'm a hopeless romantic y'all....so my clients are like-minded as well. They love one another oh-so-much and don't mind showing it in their portraits. Capturing their love story is what I live for...those intimate quiet moments speak their story & it's just full of romantic goodness! So before we begin I like to go over what types of "poses" I use then they naturally make them their own...it's like magic! I also let them know that they can laugh, be themselves...because this is such a joyous occasion!

When my couples so up dressed to the nine's....well let's just say my little southern heart explodes. Having hair and make-up completed not only makes the portraits look nice, but it also helps the bride feel pretty too-and we all know feeling pretty leads to confidence, which in turn creates some knock-it-out-of-the-park portraits! Can we say #winning? So if you can book your trial hair and make-up for your e-shoot, take advantage of it! Also head on over to Pinterest for some outfit ideas, you can follow my e-shoot board at Sarah Houston Photography. (links are on my website!)

Classic portraits are a must. I always like to take a few "classic" portraits for Mom, Dad + the Grandparents, because they don't always want the kissing picture on their fridge, so the "classic" portrait is a must for every e-shoot & couples usually end up loving that one the most!!

HAVE FUN!!! I always want my couples to laugh, smile and truly enjoy themselves. This is their day to love on one another and start the chapter for their big day...it's kind of the foundation for the wedding. No pressure or anything! I also let my couples know they don't have to be models...in fact it's best if they aren't! I am the queen of awkward y'all...so no one is more awkward than me.
