Southern Traditions 101 | Burying The Bourbon | Virginia Wedding Photographer Sarah Houston Photography

Another southern wedding tradition is "Burying The Bourbon" this tradition usually makes the groom the most happiest!

Southern folklore says:  "if you bury a bottle of bourbon at the site where the bride and groom are to be married it will not rain on their wedding day." According to many believers, this must be done exactly one month before the wedding, the bottle must be completely full, and it must be buried upside down to ensure maximum weather persuasion (Plus it just sounds fun!).

Folklore also says that you should bury it on a day that has the ideal weather you would like for your wedding day...so if you don't want 90 degrees with a chance of thunderstorms, I suggest you hold off on burying it till the day is 70 and clear :)

Then after the ceremony you dig it up and share it with all of your guests-how fun is that!? Well...for me I'd have to mark the ground where I buried it with something because I am the forgetful type...
